Character: Eustace
Canon: post Freedom's Dirge + Summer Fate Episode
Age: 28
Background Information: wiki 1; wiki 2; event write-ups
Eustace is an Erune, a race known for its animal-like ears, and grew up in a peaceful village on a snowy island so remote it wasn't marked on many maps. But when he was around ten his home was destroyed, leaving him the only survivor. He would be rescued by Ronan, a top commanding officer and future mentor, and brought into an organization called the Society. There he would learn that what happened to his homeland was the work from an organization called the "Foe," an group that is continuing the agenda of the previous Astral Wars and are seeking to destroy the Skydwellers, and that the Society is working to fight against them and the primal beasts that threaten peaceful lives. With revenge freezing his heart, but with a sincere desire for peace and quiet, he works up the ranks to become an elite soldier, the "top loyal dog" of the Society. But in recent years, things appear to not be as they seem, and the purpose and history of the Society organization begins to unravel, with him and his close colleagues at the heart of uncovering it all.
In this group, Eustace works most closely with the following members: Beatrix, Zeta, Vaseraga, and Ilsa. As mentioned, Ronan is his superior commanding officer but despite training him as something like a successor, he also acted as Eustace's guardian. Other key characters are the "Captain" (MC of Granblue Fantasy, I will use Gran but will retcon if needed if a Djeeta ever shows up), Lyria, and Vyrn who play a pivotal role in his character development. Cassius is something like a guest Society member. Originally from the moon, Eustace initially distrusts him but seeing him change and adapt to living in the sky realm has changed his opinion to be more favorable.
Everything is covered in the wikis and event write-ups, but from Eustace's current canon point, the Society organization is still rebuilding and he has more free time to not only have an actual vacation, but also help Gran. This includes having to help Balurga rescue Skull from a situation that references back to Eustace's first introduction and their first meeting. In Freedom's Dirge, Skull and Balurga are captured by ex-Odajumoki gang members, however Skull create a diversion to allow Balurga to escape. Balurga manages to get to the Grandcypher where Eustace is currently staying and upon hearing what happened, he volunteers to join the MC to help save him. He is basically the only one who knows how to keep everyone in check and basically the only functioning brain cell of this team.
Another harvin named Rhiogur had created a new cult following called the Chamux under the guise that he could speak to the former Odajumoki leader (and former Society leader), Guzaletha. With some help with another former Odajumoki member, Reizrit, they are able to reveal the truth of Chamux's charade, battle it out, and settle everything. Eustace is the one to break Rhiogur's heart on revealing how Charlotta condemns him and helps support Skull in the final duel, stepping up to take his place. This mirrors the ending of Dirge of Freedom, where Eustace stepped aside so Skull could make the final blow against Guzaletha. In the end, Skull, Balurga, and Reizrit decide to follow their own paths.
In Eustace's Summer Fate Episode (transcript), Eustace is with Gran, Vyrn, and Lyria at a lake for vacation and invite the erune to swim. However, he declines to work on Flamek's maintenance instead. Undaunted, the trio look for a way to get him to join in when they hear of a dog competition. With the best bait in hand, they manage to convince Eustace to come out and watch and to change into more appropriate summer clothing instead of his usual uniform. While watching the competition, a dog sticks by Eustace despite his attempts to have it go back to its owner.
During the third contest, a large eal appears while a dog and owner are in the water. The black dog that had been with Eustace rushes in to help them out while Eustace and MC prepare to fight off the eal. Afterwards, the black dog returns to Eustace's side and its trainer appears. She reveals she had sent the dog to a home before, but the owner passed in an accident and so she took it back in. Seeing the dog attached to Eustace, she suggest Eustace take the dog in. At first, Eustace is hesitant as he recalls what happened to Vitty and is afraid of losing such a loyal friend again. However, the black dog presses against Eustace's hand as if to reassure him, and in the end Eustace can't refuse and accepts to take in the dog. He then names him Valo and he and Valo would become inseparable—when Eustace is not out on missions at least.
Personality: Eustace is a distant, calm, quiet individual who has suffered a great tragedy that made his emotions essentially freeze over. It's not that he stopped caring at all, but his heart had hardened to the point that normal painful or difficult situations no longer disturbed him and he focused on accomplishing his objective. He looks at things objectively and does not allow any personal feelings or conflicts he may have cloud his judgment if he knows he has to take the difficult path.
However, this also means he's very careful and looks very far down the road. He assumes the worst case scenario so that he is always prepared to handle whatever is thrown at him as efficiently and effectively as possible. He also works diligently to mitigate risks, especially when others are involved. He doesn't want anyone to get needlessly hurt or lose their life so he is harsh on everyone only because he wants as much certainty as possible that an operation will be a success with the least amount of loss possible. This also means while he will consider them, he won't solely take outside assurances; he needs to see proof that they are capable for what may lay ahead.
A man of very few words, his demeanor can be rough, callous, and even ruthless at times, particularly when around those he's wary of and especially if on a mission as his main focus is on that and not idle chatter. Often responding in silence and with an expression that's almost always either hardened indifference or a slight frown, he often appears brusque, "grumpy," and perhaps broody if deep in thought. He will say what needs to be said, and while he could say things nicely, he's the type to give it cold and hard. However, he is also capable of praise and reassurance, just again the delivery isn't always the softest.
Preferring peace and quiet, he tends to keep to himself, and this tends to form a wall around him both physically and metaphorically as he keeps his guard up at all times. However, he's slowly been lowering those walls a bit, becoming a bit easier to approach. It still takes a bit for him to fully trust someone, but once he does and they're in, they're kept in. He can be fiercely loyal will do whatever it takes to protect those he cares about. Even rebelling and consider leaving Society if he cannot agree to his orders.
Beneath that cold exterior is a very kind and gentle man, and those who pay attention will be able to notice it despite how he might seem otherwise. He enjoys the peace brought about from those quiet moments and thus tends to keep to himself, often feeling satisfied to see others enjoying that peace and not necessarily needing to be a part of it. Thanks to the Captain and others, his heart has begun to warm up and to allow him to reveal a little more of that soft side that always existed but remained hidden. He'll show his affections in more subtle, sometimes playful ways. He knows how to tease and even play jokes, and he'll even let at least the Captain pet his ears upon request.
With his vengeance finally settled, more of that hidden side is revealing itself as he becomes more relaxed and outgoing. He hasn't lost his edge and still maintains his quiet, aloof nature, but it's considerably softer compared to how he is first introduced.
Finally and most importantly—he loves dogs. Like a lot. A whole lot. He used to raise a wolf cub when he was young. However as an adult it was initially difficult for him to approach them due to his intimidating and closed off nature. It's only after he finally started to open his heart and allowed others in that he was able to approach them again. It's a rather good analogy of how he is towards people as well. Now that he has Valo, he is more open in his expressions, allowing himself to show of some of that softer, vulnerable side—but mostly with those he's with or if he doesn't care in the moment.
Abilities & Inventory: His character wikis have all of his game skills and I have a detailed write-up here regarding his abilities.
Eustace is an ace gunman who wields a special gun (rifle) called Flamek Thunder. It is a special gun called a seal weapon made with moon technology and is capable of firing powerful charges of lightning. Although it can fire normal shots, with enough charge time it can release a strong area attack. The effects of the lightning are the usual: burn damage, chance of stun/paralysis, weakening defense. However, while he's capable of wielding it close range, it's best for long range and aerial attacks. When charged, it can unleash a concentrated barrage of lightning to cause devastating damage in an area. In it's awakened form, he can fire that charged attack consecutively and consistently to keep a constant barrage of damage over a huge area. This particular attack will be nerfed a bit in scope, power, and be one, two time use with need of increased down time. Flamek is also able to sense and respond to Eustace's emotions, and only he and anyone he allows can hold it.
He is also trained in all forms of combat. He uses a long dagger as a secondary weapon, but he is a capable martial artist and knows how to use grenades. Due to his physique he's rather quick and agile, preferring to fight efficiently and with no wasted moves. He can scout, plan, and devise strategies, allowing him to take on a leadership role relatively easily. He's not considered an elite for nothing.
Due to the damage to his right eye, his sense of hearing is more perceptive than others. He can pick up sounds and notice the presence of others long before anyone else can, even at considerable distances. This could be an innate skill developed from Erune hearing, making up for the slightly damaged vision of his right eye, or from training how to hunt when he was younger. But it's definitely a more naturally trained skill than anything supernatural. He is also aware of his surroundings, using his hunting skills to notice changes in environment including the weather.
He'll be coming in with his updated outfit with the eye patch. The communicator might be able to work if he can figure out how to either connect it to his shellphone or through the network system in the game. If he's able to connect it to his phone, it would basically become like a bluetooth earpiece. Weapon wise he'll have Flamek and a long dagger, and his holster will have the kit required to maintain them. Valo will also be joining him.

ARMADA SELECTION
Much to his dismay, Eustace is going Corsair. Although he may seem more fitting as a Paladin, he can work as a mercenary and will be fine if he finds more freefaring adventurers.
