I had a bit of experience in the other world I was in so I had an advantage with that. But for here, it mostly relies on focusing your dreamotion and then trying to understand their emotions.
Your excitement was so great he could practically hear it off the page. No really, he's wondering if he actually heard the words— Or maybe she squealed for real down there.]
[...This girl... Yet he's smiling anyway as he just closes the journal and starts to make his way down there. He can still hear the dogs clamoring because WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS GIRL, so he'll just enter through the bottom door.]
Here, try this. [He steps over closer to her so he can speak low near her ear so the other dogs can't hear as easily.] Just tell them to sit or ask one of them to get their favorite toy.
[ Oh, we're whispering now! Lyria stands on her tip toes to meet Eustace half way... or enough so that he doesn't have to lean down so much why is he so tall
But she nods, determination taking over her features before she walks over to them, addressing with a booming voice: ]
[ SHE IS SO UTTERLY SHOCKED WOW IT ACTUALLY WORKED-
She's bustling with so much joy and excitement that she looks up to Eustace (almost as eagerly as the dogs) with a face that reads "Look! Look what I just did! Did you see that!?" as she hurries over to the kitchen counter to retrieve some snacks. ]
Be sure not to move until I get back...! [ She's watching them the entire time, giggling all the while. ]
I think I understand what you mean! I feel like I can really hear them talk!
[Lord this house is going to burst into more sparkles and flowers with Lyria's excitement being as high as it is. AND THE DOGS REALLY INCH FORWARD A LITTLE but they are good boys and girls and wait, some bums wiggling a little, some paws tip tapping in anticipation.]
They can be fairly obvious in their wants and do their best to communicate. On the whole, these dogs are a lot smarter than average ones, likely due to their fairy lineage. Once you understand their general meaning, you can work on understanding more. And through dreamotion, you'll eventually hear their true voices.
[ You were what you signed up for when you let Lyria into this house!! There's so escape from it now!!
But just as quickly as she runs to the counter does she return with a bag of treats in her hand. She motions for each one to stay still as she delivers the goodies one by one as is increasingly more impressed the further down the line she goes. ]
That's amazing... then I'm going to try to work really hard to understand! [ Once all the treats have been delivered the dogs are once again set loose to grace Lyria with varies degrees of kissing and hopping. ]

I'm sure it won't take long.

[ Please don't ask what she is thinking, but you may hear the distance sounds of barking from downstairs ring out amongst the herd of corgis. ]
no subject
I could try to teach you. I've managed to with dreamotion.

I haven't quite figured out how to work "dreamotion", but it just comes naturally to us, right?
So wait, does that mean you've talked with the dogs!? Like, how we are doing right now!?

Okay, hold on, I'll come down.
no subject
Thank yooooooooou!! I'll see you soon! [ She's even doodling a little smiley face next to her words! ]
no subject
You really got them riled up here...
no subject
Cue the girl standing in the middle of the herd of dogs, throwing a rope around in the air for playtime. ]
Woof! Arf arf...!! Look Eustace, I'm trying to talk with them, too!
[ They are barking back? IT'S WORKING, RIGHT? ]
no subject
....
..............]
Lyria, rather than talking with them, they're starting to be concerned if you've hurt your head.
no subject
[ Wait, did she do something wrong!? ]
no subject
no subject
Ooooh now she was embarrassed- ]
I wasn't doing anything else- not yet! But you said he really liked this rope, so I was going to start with that!
[ Looks like the others saw the toy and assumed it was for all of them, too! Now she's just in the middle of this literal doggypile. ]
no subject
With a sharp whistle, he calls the dogs to him, making them get off of poor Lyria.]
You don't need to go that far... They can understand most words already so you can just talk normally to them.
no subject
Ooooh... [ Realization hits her as her face molds into a bit of understanding. ] I got it! What do you usually say to them?
no subject
[...]
...I just talk to them normally.
[....Probably better to do this by example.]
Here, try this. [He steps over closer to her so he can speak low near her ear so the other dogs can't hear as easily.] Just tell them to sit or ask one of them to get their favorite toy.

why is he so tallBut she nods, determination taking over her features before she walks over to them, addressing with a booming voice: ]
Alright everyone... sit down!
no subject
Oooh, she's giving commands!! What else will we get a treat—
...Honestly Lyria probably doesn't need dreamotion to understand the clear look on their faces.]

I think they are saying "I'm happy!"
no subject
That's right. And they're giving their thanks as well.
