BACKGROUND
Eustace is not part of the main crew and therefore isn't involved in the main storyline. Instead he's a "side character" that will occasionally join the MC's crew as he has other important matters to attend to. But here's an idea on Granblue Fantasy's story and certain elements that should be understood as a background.
For the scripts for Eustace's Fate Episodes, there is the wiki, but that's like useless for an actual overview SO.
quick backstory
The following is my attempt to summarize all the key events he was involved in, with a full write-up available. The seasonals are left out here but are included in the write-up.
And that's it!
GBF Extreme Overview
The MC, (Gran for male, Djeeta for female; will refer to as "Captain") is a young skyfarer (a kind of adventurer) who seeks to find their father in a far off place called Eustalacia after receiving a letter from him. The Captain also kind of has a near death experience and has their soul bonded with a girl named Lyria. Together, along with the Captain's best dragon friend, Vyrn, they go on grand adventures to discover their world. They collect various members to form a crew and becomes captain of an airship known as the Grandcypher.
The world itself is comprised of floating islands, so airships are the main modes of transportation. It should be noted that there is no "bottom" surface—everything underneath the islands is just an abyss and if anyone falls, it's death. Along their journey, they will also learn about powerful beings known as Primal Beasts, creations made by the Astrals, a race of heavenly beings, that were used in a war against the Skydwellers. Primal Beasts are mostly known for their destruction, but there are a number who are sentient and can be supportive, too.
And that's pretty much the extreme cliffnotes about GBF's setting. I'm not detailing the deep plot here since Eustace is not directly involved and will instead focus on what he is in. There are also major side story events, such as the "What Makes the Sky Blue" series that he would be aware of, as well as anything that the other Society members may have gotten into, but they aren't as relevant to him specifically. Hopefully this should help give a little intro for the terms used.

quick backstory
Eustace is an Erune, a race known for its animal-like ears, and grew up in a peaceful village on a snowy island. But when he was around ten his home was destroyed, leaving him the only survivor. He would be rescued by Ronan, a top commanding officer and future mentor, and brought into an organization called the Society. There he would learn that what happened to his homeland was the work from an organization called the "Foe," a group that is continuing the agenda of the previous Astral Wars and are seeking to destroy the Skydwellers, and that the Society is working to fight against them and the primal beasts that threaten peaceful lives. With revenge freezing his heart, but with a sincere desire for peace and quiet, he works up the ranks to become an elite soldier, the "top loyal dog" of the Society. But in recent years, things appear to not be as they seem, and the purpose and history of the Society organization begins to unravel, with him and his close colleagues at the heart of uncovering it all.
In this group, Eustace works most closely with the following members: Beatrix, Zeta, Vaseraga, and Ilsa. As mentioned, Ronan is his superior commanding officer but despite training him as something like a successor, he also acted as Eustace's guardian. Other key characters are the "Captain" (MC of Granblue Fantasy), Lyria, and Vyrn who play a pivotal role in his character development. Cassius is something like a guest Society member. Originally from the moon, Eustace initially distrusts him but seeing him change and adapt to living in the sky realm has changed his opinion to be more favorable.
After meeting the Captain, Lyria, and Vyrn, along with various incidents that occur within the Society organization itself, Eustace will start to develop and undergo a slight change in his demeanor.

story events and fate episodes
gripping freedom
Eustace is introduced in this event and has his first encounter with the Captain's crew. The Erune is following after one of his partners, Beatrix, who had gone off to North Vast on her own against orders and is in line with his own pre-assigned mission. Although Zeta and Vaseraga vouches for the crew's ability, Eustace still challenges them to a fight before accepting their aid. They travel to North Vast where the Odajumoki gang reign and encounter a harvin member named Skull.
Eustace will find Beatrix, and after failing to convince her to quit her reckless actions will take her sword as that is part of his mission and leave her to do what she wants—even if he actually feels conflicted about it. As a result, Beatrix is captured by the gang and the group has to fight the two Primal Beasts, Agyo and Ungyo. Zeta and Vaseraga will arrive as backup and Beatrix is saved.
After the hard battles, the leader, Guzaletha, is defeated and it is revealed that he is the original founder of the Society organization. Eustace's true mission is to find and eliminate him, and Guzaletha hints at the organization changing, something that Eustace already knows. Before he can pull the trigger, Skull stops him to deal with him, and Eustace allows it.

fate episodes: earth
These episodes are first set during the Gripping Freedom event while Eustace and the crew are with Skull. Skull tells them about the Odajumoki and how they have a secret: they all love dogs and even ride them. This piques Eustace's interest considerably. He then receives transmission about Zeta and Vaseraga approaching as well as an order to observe the "blue-haired girl" (Lyria). If he deems her a threat, he is supposed to eliminate her, something which he already begins to question.
After the events of Gripping Freedom and while still with the crew, they take a trip to a village that is filled with dogs. The events depict Eustace's true, kinder nature and development as he opens his heart up to allow others in. He's eventually able to pet a dog for the first time in his life and can indulge in the peace and tranquility he cherishes most. This is also the first time someone, the Captain, pets his ears, but he doesn't really think much of it.
When he's later told that it's been decided that Lyria is a threat because of her ability with the primal beasts and is ordered to eliminate her and her friends—swiftly. Eustace responds that all he wants is peace and quiet, something that the Society is aware of. It's for that reason he refuses the order. As his contact is shouting at him, he takes the transceiver out of his ear and crushes it in his hand, throwing it to the ground to return to the group. He just sits down next to a dog that snuggled up to him and pets it. When asked about what transpired, he says it's nothing and indulges himself in petting the dog and in the peaceful moment.

halloween event
Eustace and Beatrix are featured in two Halloween events, and he has a Halloween Fate Episode. I'm only including the first event as that is actually related to the Society story event plotline—the rest is mostly fluff.
In Phantasm Banquet: Carnival of Whimsy, the two are assigned on a mission but they're currently separated and keep missing each other. It mostly highlights Eustace actually having fun, even pranking people. Beatrix will reference Eustace's first ever refusal on a mission, and he admits he had planned on leaving, but it seems he still has some use to the organization. There is also a point where he notices that Beatrix's sword, Embrasque, has actually changed form to match her outfit, something he's never seen any of their weapons do before.

platinum sky + ii
There are two Platinum Sky events, however the Society group is only heavily present in the first one and just make a one scene cameo in the second. The main plotline is about a the Platinum Sky Cup (PSC), a highstakes race featuring smaller airships called "speedships." The Captain and others are part of the race, with a racer named Meteon as the superstar and Maddie as the big opponent. Zeta and Beatrix are also participating in the race while Eustace and Vaseraga are working behind the scenes to investigate those fixing the races. It would appear that the race officials are behind the race fixing, but they also discover an underground lab developing illegal airships and speedships. There is also a potential connection between the officials and the Society's enemies.
During the race, Vaseraga informs Eustace that the ones fixing the race were using technology from the research lab. But what is more pressing is Maddie had a falling out with the researchers so they rigged his ship to explode and take down anyone along with it. Eustace contacts the Captain and informs them of the problem that if they let Maddie finish, the spectators will be in line of the explosion. The group is able to succeed and the race ends without any issue.
Later, Eustace and Vaseraga clear out the lab and everyone involved with the fixing. However in doing so, they grow suspicious of what the Society is doing. Vaseraga finds a record implicating that the Society was getting intel from the lab, but wanted it destroyed. Given what just happened, Eustace is starting to have doubts about what they're doing. From this point forward, the group are becoming more suspicious about the Society.
As mentioned, the group makes a brief cameo in the sequel event. The only thing of note is that because they are on a mission, Zeta and Beatrix can't participate in the race and Eustace gives the Captain transceivers. He doesn't really say why, just "Just in case." The group will end up using them due to the events that transpire.

right behind you
This event introduces a fifth member, Ilsa. She joined the organization around the same time as Eustace and is currently working as the drill sergeant, training up all the Society recruits. While she does not engage in missions like the others, she is able to provide back-up through the use of troops and powerful weapons. Her seal contract weapon, Nybeth, is capable of sealing other weapons' powers.
In this event it is revealed that the weapons Eustace's group's use, seal weapons, are more than they appear. Grynoth, Vaseraga's scythe, transforms into an entity called an Automagod. It is revealed through Ilsa that the Society higher ups were played by the Foe and have been split into nine separate factions. This causes internal problems for them.
As the plot goes, Grynoth is on a rampage as an Automagod and kidnaps Vyrn. The group is unable to rescue him, but Zeta is able to transfer her tracking device into Grynoth to lead them to an island called Moon Silver. They find something like a cult within and it is led by a being called Neutronon, who is revealed to be an Astral.
Fighting happens; Vyrn is found by Eustace and Beatrix; Vaseraga needs help because Grynoth took him over; and Zeta is able to save him. Vaseraga reveals the Neutronon has been receiving transmissions from the Moon, which is where the Foe originated.
More machines crash land and there is much fighting until they are faced with Automagod Pyet-A (Type-A). As they battle it out, Eustace uses Flamek Thunder. Beatrix takes the damage to deal heavy hits on Pyet-A and Isla is able to use Nybeth to slow the regeneration. Zeta and Vaseraga rush in for their own blows, are able to pierce through, and Zeta pulls out the sword hidden within it. With Pyet-A defeated, they can relax a little.
Neutronon asks for them to cut his tubes that keep it alive in exchange for information. If cut, Neutronon will mention about how they are hunting their creator (presumably the Foe is hunting the creator of the Astrals). If left to rot, Neutronon laments and wonders when his war will be over.
Unbeknownst to them, Pyet-A, which had been left alone, is actually still active and eating everything around it.
Having succeeded the mission they are spared from the organization. Grynoth is currently locked under seal for both protection and analysis. Since no one else has exhibited signs of their weapon taking over, they're fine and are able to keep their weapons. This leads them questioning the nature of their weapons.

fate episodes: dark
These Fate Episodes are set before and around the events of Second Advent. Eustace discovers his report on events of Moon Silver have been heavily doctored. The mentions of Automagods, Moondwellers, and Pyet-A are missing and clear that the Society is trying to cover something up. He tries to continue to read more, but a member of a sect opposing contractors interrupts him. His loyalty within the organization is being questioned.
He meets with Ronan, a top administrator in the organization, to discuss matters and receives confirmation that the inner structures are in chaos and that's exactly why Eustace shouldn't be working independently. Ronan warns him to keep away from the blue-haired girl and Eustace understands what's really going on.
Eustace appears in time to save Lyria and the Captain from a trap laid by other Society soldiers. He seems to hesitate when called a traitor by the Society soldiers, but then Ronan steps in to tell them to back off, initiating new orders under his authority.
After discerning that Ronan is on his side and trustworthy, Eustace relays his findings and his suspicions regarding the Society and involvement with the Foe and Moondwellers—how his weapon (and the other contractors) are connected and that conflict will erupt between everyone within the Society (higher ups, contractors, etc.).
Eustace gives Ronan an ultimatum that he holds Flamek Thunder and can either work for them, work for him, or he goes on his own. His condition is they leave Lyria and the others alone. Ronan accepts the terms for Eustace to work for him. Eustace then rejoins group, recognizing the warmth starting to grow within him.

second advent
The event starts by introducing a new character, Cassius, who is a native on the Moon—yes the actual moon in the sky. He is sent on a mission to the surface and has brought a spear called "Yek" with him.
The group are informed by Alandus, one of the founders, top administrators, and director of technology development, that they were able to return Grynoth to its original weapon form. However they still don't know much about their seal weapons and are requested to hand them over for research with the promise of return. Everyone except Beatrix readily complies, and it's Eustace who persuades her.
In truth, everyone but Beatrix have been investigating the Society's movements ever since the Automagods appearance. They have no idea what the organization is doing anymore or its true objective, especially now that its been splintered into so many factions.
They meet back on the Grandcypher, more machines appear, and Beatrix is sent with the Captain to investigate Moon Silver while the others look into Society. There they find an injured Cassius and take him back to the organization for medical treatment. Eustace is suspicious, and rightly so. After slipping away from Beatrix, Cassius manages to find where his weapon is held. However he's discovered by Eustace, and they get into a brief scuffle. Although Cassius activates Pyet-A, it behaves abnormally and everyone comes in to help.
At this point Alandus reveals his shady intentions by taking Yek and going off to do his research. In trying to find Alandus, Beatrix claims she is able to hear Embrasque's voice. She leads them to Alandus's private study. Neither Alandus nor the weapons are there, but they begin investigating the documents and records there. They learn that he's trying to create a new Automagod fusing a seal weapon and a skydweller's brain, Automagod Versatile.
After going through the hole Beatrix stumbled through, they discover Alandus had accomplished his goal by merging his brain into Pyet-A. They scramble to get their weapons and everyone succeeds—except for Beatrix. Embrasque is absorbed and all hell breaks loose.
Facing the new Automagod Versatile, Cassius makes a plan for them to split the three entities within it. Beatrix is able to reach out and awaken Embrasque, pulling it out. This has a domino effect as Versatile breaks down and vomits everything. Vaseraga tries to teach Zeta how to activate his weapon, but she does it her own because screw machine language.
They defeat Versatile and are finally able to recover. Cassius remains within Society custody both as a prisoner and guest. Unable to return to the moon and finding the people he's met interesting, it seems he's turned into an ally. Eustace is still suspicious as fuck about him.

spaghetti syndrome
In Agastia, a young engineer named Isaac and his robot Raybury are introduced to help clean up the dark essence in the remaining research labs. Afterwards he receives a message: LOCATE CASSIUS AND BRING HIM BACK TO THE MOON. It's revealed that he is actually a descendent of the moondwellers who had been sent to the Sky Realm from the moon ages ago.
Elsewhere, the Society group were gathered in a town and Eustace is watching over Cassius. Prior to this he had received a missive to bring Cassius back to HQ for questioning, and when he's asked to report later he finds it too suspicious and doesn't act on it. However Cassius receives a late night visitor from a woman named Grace, someone who has been on their watch list ever since Zeta and Vaseraga went up against her during Halloween.
Grace later appears at Isaac's, the two having known each other for a while as she is also a moon descendent. She feeds him stew which is made of Otherwordly being flesh and leaves him with the scalpel she used on it to conduct her experiments. Isaac is less than happy and later goes into town to find Cassius. He's caught and questioned, revealing his ancestry, the order to return Cassius, and the family wish he wants to fulfill: returning to the moon. His family had built a rocket and he's ready to go once Cassius is. However, there's a setback as Cassius's spear, Yek, is broken is and is required to help pilot the rocket. Cassius pushes Isaac to repair it, but he has no plans to return to the moon just yet.
CENTCOM again orders Eustace to bring in Cassius before malfunctioning, and Ilsa calls him telling him that a soldiers have been dispatched to their location packing anti-primal rounds. When the group arrives, Isaac and Raybury escape and Eustace refuses to comply and the groups engage. However a loud sound disrupts the group, knocking out Vaseraga and Zeta's and Eustace's weapons. Cassius is taken and Isaac and Raybury return to help the group.
Cassius is uncooperative while being interrogated and while Ilsa tries to keep an eye on him, she also warns the group to be careful on their way back to HQ. As they approach, Ilsa shouts an emergency transmission to protect the spear, CENTCOM, and automagods, an explosion goes off and the group on the GC can only stare at the rising smoke. They don't have long before they are attacked by two automagods that are built similar to the Wind and Thunder gods Zeta and Vaseraga had faced in Lognos.
Once they reach the base, they learn Ilsa and her troops had been following Heisenberg to stop CENTCOM but were trapped before reaching it. Grace reveals herself as one of the soldiers working for Heisenberg who reveals himself as part of the Foe, and Ilsa was about to fight her before drones and facsimile automagods appeared.
The group heads in, Raybury able to open the once closed doors and bust through in time to save Ilsa and her soldiers. They undo Cassius's restraints and during the battle, Lyria uses her primal summon ability, attracting the attention of CENTCOM and becoming its focus. Cassius realizes this and shields her, getting captured instead. The group follow and upon entering the central command, they discover a red-haired girl who speaks in machine language before escaping with Cassius in tow, heading to the rocket.
The location slowly becomes a warzone as the locals have noticed the girl's presence with her giant crystals. The group eventually joins in and split into two. Zeta, Beatrix, and Vaseraga take on the girl, Yatima, while Isaac, Raybury, and Eustace stay back to repair Yek, Eustace providing cover. (Captain go to either side). Raybury joins the fray, helping Beatrix by joining with her broken Embrasque to deal damage. Once Yek is repaired, Isaac executes to jam all signals, including Yatima. This provides the opporunity the group needs to attack Yatima, with Eustace providing cover fire and disrupting her powerful attack with his own.
When Yatima turns into a large black pillar, Lyria tries to summon Bahamut, resulting in Yatima focusing on her and the Captain. Cassius rushes in and takes the hit instead, enraging the other members and they redouble their efforts and Yatima eventually falls. Although defeated, Cassius suffers grave injuries and must return to the moon as his body is unable to be repaired by Sky Realm methods. With a bittersweet farewell, the two board the rocket and launch into space.
But there is no rest for the weary as Heisenberg and the Foe have seized control of the Society organization and placed bounties on the seal contractor's heads. They are then forced on the run and to lay low until they can make a move.
Sometime later, Isaac sends out an SOS signal, describing how things fell apart when they reached the moon with Cassius taken in to have his brain removed for study.

Sometime later, Isaac sends out an SOS signal, describing how things fell apart when they reached the moon with Cassius taken in to have his brain removed for study.
home sweet moon
This is way too long so breaking down into major points:
- Operation save Isaac and Cassius is underway; go go Mahira
- New character: Gwynne join the ranks as the next seal contractor
- Grace appears and kicks the bucket
- Otherworldly beings appear as automagods and also kick the bucket. Ilsa rips the leader apart with her bare hands, you go girl
- Plan to use the three automagods, Pyet-A, Grynoth, and Arianensa to help launch the cosmoship and get to the moon. Captain, Vaseraga, and Gwynne will be their respective pilots and control them remotely via neural connection
- There is also threat of moon attack so have to prepare for that. Flamek and Nybeth need to be awakened but no clear way how
- Isaac is helping them but when they arrive he poses as working for the moon and reveals the clones and memory data he's had to do. Eventually they get him and the original Cassius.
- Face off Omega-3, Ellis and Juana kick the bucket. Dex still alive
- Isaac planned to just send Cassius back because the pod is not safe and he wouldn't survive without his hazard suit, which he no longer has. But instead of Cassius, a clone is sent back instead, the original staying behind to help Isaac return home to the Sky Realm
- They try to rescue again with Isaac and Cassius informing them of Diaspora
- Diaspora is the thirteenth and last automagod made and it is a doozy. Intent to wipe out the Sky Realm completely
- Isaac, Cassius, and Raybury stuck in the dissembler where Diaspora is forming. Raybury sacrifices himself to crystalize Disapora fluids and allow Isaac and Cassius to escape
- Gwynne reveals herslf as Isaac's sister before Arianensa powers out
- Pyet-A trying to take out moon cannon but is unable to
- Isaac and Cassius almost kick the bucket when knocked into the diassembler but Raybury's earlier sacrifice reveals he awakened Yatima. Yatima blows cannon up and helps provide a way for the two to return to the Sky Realm
- Flamek is needed to combat Diaspora as it is capable of providing the lightning fire power to neutralize the regenerative properties, but still has yet to awaken. Additional issue is it was once supposed to be a super destructive force to annihilate anything in its path, but Eustace has controlled it so that it's less devastating; his work is backfiring
- Eustace confronts his past when Heisenberg reveals the weapon that destroyed his family and homeland and almost loses it before Ronan intervenes
- Weapon is set to be used as extra insurance against Diaspora, named Yama
- After wrestling with his old resolve of pure revenge and his new one to protect everyone, Eustace is able to open up and awaken Flamek
- Everyone gets new gear, Eustace gets cool
eye patchprotective eye gear for his weakened right eye - Big battles start with Vaseraga and Dex. Ilsa awakens Nybeth to help calm Vaseraga and bind Dex to allow Yama's use on it. But the mad man still moves and Vaseraga almost kicks the bucket before Eustace comes in to paralyze both. Dex unable to stand as he disintegrates but is satisfied with the battle.
- Zeta, Beatrix, Captain, and Lyria are holding off Diaspora until Eustace returns. Thanks to Raybury, Embrasque is able to fully recover and return to Beatrix.
- Eustace finally arrives and after the group gets out of the way, fires several rounds of massive lightning blasts into Diaspora. The heat and energy fry and melt the circuits and prevent it from regenerating. It also clears out the drones that were threatening Isaac's and Cassius's pod
- Cassius takes Isaac and they jump out of the pod. With the help of Tiamat they are able to land on the island safely. Mahira throws Cassius the scalpel he had sent with his clone into Diaspora, forcing it to believe the mission is complete and will no longer stir
- Everyone reunites and after Isaac and Vaseraga recover, Gwynne takes them to her foster parents restaurant to celebrate (they're draphs). Cassius makes a very bad joke about craving spaghetti because he saw his brain while on the moon. Eustace laughs.
eustace's past
Eustace's past and resolution of his revenge is revealed in a bonus story after Home Sweet Moon.
» PART 1: PARTING SHOT
As it fades to black, a gunshot rings out.
» PART 2: YESTERDAY'S MIRAGE
Eustace takes the Captain, Lyria, and Vyrn to his homeland, and island so small and far away that it might as well not be on any map. He tells them his backstory:
After the story, his littler brother Savini makes an appearance, however Eustace knows it's not his real brother but an imposter. His brother is dead and would have been in his twenties were he alive. He points Flamek at the figure and there are two options. Either Danchou will kill the imposter or Eustace will shoot it. Either way, upon destruction it is revealed to be an Otherworldly being in disguise.
Eustace will tell them some small stories about his childhood, like how his father was a hunter and had promised to take him hunting the next spring. Not only would he get his own rifle, they would make clothes for the new baby out of the furs he caught. With other little tidbits he shares, it can be gleaned that a lot of the knowledge he has about the wilderness is rooted back to his days as a child.
In the end he gives his final farewells to his long buried home. Ronan had already performed the funeral rites decades ago so he had never had a reason to come back. Now although he will always consider this place his home, it's not the on he will return to, implying the Grandcypher and the people he's come to grow close to is now what he considers home.

- Flashback to when Ronan first encounters Eustace staggering through the blizzard of his homeland
- Soldiers are confused because map does not indicate a village
- They investigate the carnage remains of Eustace's village

- Heisenberg says his troops are here for military drills. He implicates primal beasts could have done the damage
- Ronan brings up the rise of a suspicious group, the one Heisenberge describes as the one that "tries to breed conflict through unscrupulous means"
- Ronan had believed Heisenberg had felt remose but now he's not so sure, especially since Heisenberg is all "it was all for the sake of the skydwellers"
- When questioned what he plans to do with him now, Ronan draws his blade. But Eustace cuts in through the transceiver to stop him and arrives
- Eustace had figured out Ronan's plans and was able to track him down. He then tells Ronan to step aside and Ronan tries to make him stand down, but he refuses.
Eustace: This is my score to settle. Move, Ronan.
Ronan: I won't allow it.
Eustace: How many times do I have to tell you that you're no longer my commanding officer?
Eustace: I'm not under obligation to follow your orders.
Ronan: Eustace...
Ronan: ...
Ronan: Then let this be the last.
Eustace: Ronan, I don't—
Ronan: Eustace, terminate Heisenberg.
Ronan: That's my final order to you.

» PART 2: YESTERDAY'S MIRAGE
Eustace takes the Captain, Lyria, and Vyrn to his homeland, and island so small and far away that it might as well not be on any map. He tells them his backstory:
- He had a father, pregnant mother, older sister, and a younger sister and brother
- He was ten and instead of helping around the chores he ran off to the woods to find and play with a wolf cub he had raised, Vitty
- While looking for Vitty, he heard a sound from the village followed by a hot flash of light that damages his right eye
- Despite the pain he manages to return home and discovers everything ablaze and destroyed, mangled corpses everywhere
- His house was completely decimated with only ash in its place
- He runs to the barn in hopes to find anyone alive, but as the barn starts to collapse, Vitty appears and knocks him out of the way
- The pup critically injured, he carries Vitty out in hopes of finding someone despite knowing they were the only settlement on the island
- He runs into Ronan who had been with his troops upon hearing unusual activity and Ronan saves him
- Vitty dies while he was evacuated
After the story, his littler brother Savini makes an appearance, however Eustace knows it's not his real brother but an imposter. And that's it!
PERSONALITY
Eustace is a distant, calm, quiet individual who has suffered a great tragedy that made his emotions essentially freeze over. It's not that he stopped caring at all, but his heart had hardened to the point that normal painful or difficult situations no longer disturbed him and he focused on accomplishing his objective. No matter how much blood he had to spill or the pain he had to inflict, so long as it was an objective he agreed with, he would do it with no hesitation. He looks at things objectively and does not allow any personal feelings or conflicts he may have cloud his judgment if he knows he has to take the difficult path. This mindset allows him to be an excellent soldier, able to carry out orders despite whatever losses he has to endure so long as it will help him achieve his own personal goals—a life of peace free of this heedless violence and vengeance against the Foe for his family and homeland. He hates how innocent lives are being manipulated and being thrown into turmoil due to the Foe, and tries to mitigate and prevent any unnecessary loss. It's another reason why he tries to work quickly to complete his missions. The sooner he finishes, the better.
Eustace: Me being calm is, as Ilsa would say, a question of resolve.
Beatrix: Resolve?
Eustace: If you steel yourself in the face of a worst-case scenario, you'll be able to react in a composed manner.
Beatrix: Resolve?
Eustace: If you steel yourself in the face of a worst-case scenario, you'll be able to react in a composed manner.
Because of the nature of his life and work, Eustace is very perceptive and aware of his surroundings. He is always vigilant, taking note of anything that could be strange and is quick to pick up on sounds and presences that are farther away. While he's not a super genius, he's quite intelligent, able to notice and piece things together that may otherwise go unnoticed. This is due in part to his ability to focus on what matters and still see the bigger picture. He never has just "one" plan; he will always have contingencies and consider all the risks of any path. He assumes the worst case scenario so that he is always prepared to handle whatever is thrown at him as efficiently and effectively as possible. He is also very guarded and not too quick to trust others even from outside reassurances. If he has to work with someone he's never met, he may challenge them to a fight to test their strength and their worth for himself. He will also be far from friendly, again being on his guard, but that can be worn down through merit. Rather than prejudiced, he's just being logical—he needs to get his job done, not trust.
In terms of his sense of loyalty to the Society, he is known as the top elite of the Society for a reason—he follows every mission without question with a high success rate. However, it's not as if he's blindly following them just because they picked him up. While he might feel some gratitude to them for offering him a chance to fulfill his own goals and avenge his family, it's only for as long as those interests align. While he doesn't mind being the Society's "loyal dog," he's still independent minded. Once the Society's interests start to shift and start requesting things that he does not agree with, he draws the line and outright rejects. Eustace knows they need him, and while this is a reflection of his own confidence, it also doesn't matter if they didn't. He'd just up and leave if that is the best option. Due to the current situation, he still remains and works with them as he is aware of the reason behind the splintering that's occurring. But it's only with those he trusts and under his terms. If they want him, they have to follow his rules.
A man of very few words, when he does speak it is direct, precise, and on point. His demeanor can be rough, callous, and even ruthless at times, particularly when around those he's wary of and especially if on a mission as his main focus is on that and not idle chatter. Often responding in silence and with an expression that's almost always either hardened indifference or a slight frown, he often appears brusque, "grumpy," and perhaps broody if deep in thought; a frosty, cold wall to keep others at a distance. Vyrn's nickname for him is "Sourpuss," and it fits him well—however Eustace doesn't make any comment or even try to dismiss it. This is most likely because despite it being a moniker, he really doesn't care too much to be bothered by it (probably even acknowledges how he comes across). He's not really one to mince words when needed and will cut straight to the problem if it needs to pointed out. He will say what needs to be said, and while he could say things nicely, he's the type to give it cold and hard. However, he is also capabale of praise and reassurance, just again the delivery isn't always the softest.
He's not really one to wax poetic, but when he's giving explanations or information, he is thorough. Although he can be very tight-lipped about anything confidential, anything else he is more willing to divulge. He also doesn't mind being in crowds or working with those he trusts despite usually working alone; but he does prefer the peace and quiet of solitude so will often keep to himself, again forming that wall that makes it difficult for most to approach.
Lyria: I think I get it now. I get what you really mean about your hope for peace and quiet.
Lyria: You mean the calm and gentle stillness we find in moments like this, right?
Eustace: You're right. It's moments like this that I cherish the most...
Eustace: It's what I want...and what I want to protect.
Lyria: You mean the calm and gentle stillness we find in moments like this, right?
Eustace: You're right. It's moments like this that I cherish the most...
Eustace: It's what I want...and what I want to protect.
However, after meeting the Captain and others, his heart has begun to warm up and reveals the kinder, gentler side of him at times. This side of him has always existed, but it was always kept shut tight inside and rarely surfaced except in private moments to himself. Now, Eustace can still be rather brusque, but to those he's come to trust and get along with, he'll show his affections in more subtle, sometimes playful ways. He knows how to tease and even play jokes, and he'll even let at least the Captain pet his ears upon request. He had been confused at first ("I am not a dog. Even though my ear may resemble theirs."), but he eventually allows it and even offers it freely. It doesn't seem like he really minds all that much, so it's possible he'd allow it for others he's come to know and trust. Beneath that cold exterior is a very kind and gentle man, and those who pay attention will be able to notice it despite how he might seem otherwise. He enjoys the peace brought about from those quiet moments and thus tends to keep to himself, often feeling satisfied to see others enjoying that peace and not necessarily needing to be a part of it.
When it comes to the loyalty towards those he's close with, whether it's on a working level or friendship, he is fierce and will do whatever to protect them. He will place them above his loyalty to the Society. Even if he doesn't always outwardly show it, he cares deeply in his own way and will worry and be concerned about their safety. He'll feel conflicted when he does have to put a mission over his personal thoughts, and while it may feel as if he is abandoning one over the other, in truth he just knows that in order to succeed in both one has to take precedent before he can tackle the next. Now after meeting the Captain, he will also be more willing to seek aid and rely on other help rather than just trying to do it on his own.
Finally and most importantly—he loves dogs. Like a lot. A whole lot. Even when on a mission, when the topic of dogs came up he was instantly interested and was a little bit distracted before he remembered himself. One of the biggest developments for him was when he was able to finally approach and pet a dog. Until then, because of how intimidating and closed off he made himself, dogs would be wary of him, much to his dismay. But when he finally started to open his heart and allowed others in, he was able to be with one at last. It's a rather good analogy of how he is towards people as well.
I feel like these two passages from his Dark Fate Episodes encapsulate the conflict and development that Eustace experiences.
The snowfields are quiet and monochromatic. Warmth left him long ago, so he trudges onward with the frost biting at his limbs.
He should be moving toward a purpose, but instead he is driven by fear.
Closing his eyes, he can see the roaring flames, the lamentations of happier days now lost.
And having witnessed them go, he is left only with this insufferable silence.
It is unyielding as it resonates throughout the void of his mind, a hymn of loss that only he can hear.
The pangs of loss froze his heart, until he mistook his emptiness for resolve.
But at some point warmth found him again, and the ice began to thaw.
It's not that he'd forgotten his emotions; it was just that they'd begun working once more.
The power he now possessed, so soft and comfortable he could cry, was all he could wield to protect that warmth.
And he would protect it. Even if that meant utilizing the same strength that torched his familiar, frozen soil.

ABILITIES
For actual game skills, the wiki has it listed. In general, Eustace is one of the top of the top when it comes to fighting and mission work. This includes assassinations, infiltration, reconnaissance, etc. It's not that he's physically strong, but that he is so focused on his mission and will do whatever it takes to complete it without fail. While not a genius, he has high logical reasoning and observation skills, so he's able to put pieces together and pick up on things fairly quickly.
❝ Flamek Thunder! Rain down your anger! ❞
His main weapon of choice is his rifle, Flamek Thunder. It's a special seal weapon that is capable of taking down Primal Beasts, but it does have a bit of a charge time to pull off its ultimate move, Flamek Thunder. This will cast down a storm of lightning bolts and riddle the battlefield, however it is best used outdoors. It's also been stated initially that it requires a Primal Beast to activate, however later events have proven that he can use it without such a presence; unless against the Automagods is another specific condition. He does have a lower level skill of the same name, but it's power and damage is different.
Flamek can shoot both standard bullets and lightning. Some of his shots are capable of paralyzing or stunning foes, lower defenses or weaken strength, or deal elemental damage, capable of firing down actual lightning bolts. For game mechanics, he is capable of providing buffs, but it's not really clear how. Magic does exist, so it's not impossible that he may have some innate ability that he can kind of cast; it's also possible it's an effect from his weapon, such as firing a certain bullet that releases enhancements.
His weapon also has a kind of "charge" system where its attacks become more powerful over time and can be unleashed for a powerful charge attacks that are different from Flamek Thunder. He'll fire several powerful rounds before unleashing a giant blast of lightning energy from his gun, and is possible to have some additional damage (could translate it like an aftershock wave). This activation is done by flipping a trigger switch at the top of his gun next to a gauge that indicates how much charge the weapon has. (reference images: 1, 2, 3, 4)
When fully awakened, Flamek is capable of transforming into a more powerful form. It will expand its barrel and yellow rings covered in symbols and glyphs will appear around Eustace. Storm clouds will gather and Flamek will release a giant laser or cannon like blast of lightning high into the air which will arc and spread out to cover an extremely wide range. It's mostly an aerial attack, but the immense charge will affect those on the ground as well. It's strong enough to melt and destroy a humongous Automagod so one definitely doesn't want to get too close. Eustace had to upgrade his armor to mitigate the electrical discharge. (reference images: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
As a side note, as a seal weapon Flamek Thunder originated from the moon and was made with moon technology. Thus its design is more complex than standard weapons and was once capable of turning into an automagod like the others. But due to resonating and operating with Eustace, it is no longer is able to and unless Cygames throws a curveball at us, it will always retain its current form. It is also semi-sentient in the sense that as far as we know it is incapable of actual thought and doesn't have a sense of self-awareness, but it does respond to Eustace in an emotional sense. It was described as once being one of the most destructive and devasting of the weapons, but because of Eustace's desire to not catch any unwanted casualties, its power diminished so that it was more controlled. Only when awakened or Eustace has more volatile emotions will Flamek unleash its true power.
And to put a side note to this side note, I personally wouldn't count it completely out that Flamek and the other weapons have the potential to show more sense of awareness as Grynoth and Embrasque, two other seal weapons, have managed to do so. This could of course be a specific "evolution" based on their wielders (Vaseragea and Beatrix respectively), but never know! It's something fun to think about and play with and while I wouldn't employ it in a game, it would be fun in other environments/settings.
Other weapons he can wield are short pistols, long daggers, and grenades. While he is an excellent marksman, he is also well adept in hand-to-hand close combat and is knowledgeable in almost every weapon even if he doesn't specialize in it. In GBVS, Eustace has an additional weapon in his right glove. It has an electrical wire with an attachment that can whip out and stun the target with electricity.
Finally, he seems to have remarkable hearing and perception as he's constantly shown to have heard or noticed something long before anyone else, even at considerable distances. This could be an innate skill developed from Erune hearing, making up for the slightly damaged vision of his right eye, or from training how to hunt when he was younger. But it's definitely a more naturally trained skill than anything supernatural.

RANDOM NOTES
WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH HIS CLOTHES? So Erunes are known for their...interesting fashion sense, which is to have their tops be completely sideless, backless, or some mix of both. This is true for both genders, and despite his personality, Eustace is no different and will wear those types of clothes. Why is it like this? Aside from character designer fetish, the prevailing fandom speculation is the style existed since always and that there could be a practical reason based on Erunes having roots with animals. Many believe that the openings provide ventilation so they don't overheat and keep them cool. Another speculation is Korwa, an Erune fashion designer, brought the style back and expanded on it, making it more mainstream. I tend to go with the "overheating/ventilation" theory along with it just being what they always wear.
WHAT'S WITH HIS RIGHT EYE? IT'S NOT...ENTIRELY CLEAR. We do know his eyesight was damaged from the intense light released from the blast that destroyed his home village. It was enough to leave flash burn marks for Ronan to comment on, and while he's not blind in the eye and can see through it normally, he does have light sensitivity, likely photophobia. This means if there's a bright flash of light hitting his right eye, it will be momentarily blinded and he'll be unable to focus through it. It's partially why he has hair covering it (though he covered his left eye when he was younger so...that style was already "his" since he was a kid). Depending on the intensity, it can pass in a few minutes or could take hours before he fully recovers.
As to whether there is any visible scarring from the burn...it's unclear. Nothing is ever outright stated, but in the game he'll lift up his hair as if to show there is some sign of damage to his eye. Of course this is just text so there is no illustration to accompany it. We do catch glimpses of his right eye in some new artwork and in GBVS, something that's never been even hinted at in the past, but so far what's been revealed has been uninjured and it's not his entire face. It's quite possible he might have something more on the right side of the area which is still covered, maybe near the brow as that has yet to be fully shown, but it's tough to say. Even then it could just be mild scarring and nothing horrendous.
For my personal purposes, I'm going with it's just some mild scarring near the right corner of his eye, close to the brow. Not enough to draw too much attention at first glance, but enough to be noticeable when actually looked upon. Of course with his hair covering it up, it'll be difficult to really see it unless his hair is brushed back completely, especially with how that side is the thickest.
MAGIC: animal and elemental; bias towards canines for animal and lightning and ice for elemental
FAMILIAR: snow wolf named Eria

REWARDS: updated battle armor (regain); magic reload on Flamek and bottomless mug; vita potion and camelot totem recipe
NERFS: mostly to Flamek, although his rifle can still respond to him, it cannot produce lightning blasts and electrical charges on its own like it used to. Eustace will need to learn how to imbue his magic into it to produce similar effects. Even then, although his weapon is technically awakened, he won't be able to release it in its full form due to Avalon's limitations, so even his most powerful attack will be reduced in size, scope, and power.
NOTES: formed romantic relationship with Tifa Lockhart; will be CRAU'ed in Songerein; recognized in Avalon's endgame notes for his contributions
